About your theme:
I have designed the benches to reflect the surroundings of the cemetery, to be inviting to users, comfortable and multipurpose. To ensure the heritage of the cemetery is enriched and enhanced. I have designed benches so visitors to the Cemetery grounds can sit or lie upon, will attract wildlife and stand the test of time. I wish for each bench to tell a story within the cemetery linking the visitor to their surroundings. For users to reflect on past times and present times. For the bench to be both beautiful and practical. Whether the visitor to the bench is reminiscing, having a catch up with a friend, having a rest during a walk with the dog, enjoying lunch or even just a break to tie up shoe laces. Each bench will be made from concrete stone materials that look and feel beautiful with the addition of a meadow bank. Covered with grass and wild flowers the benches will also add colour and wild flower in the spring/summer months, attracting wildlife butterflies insects and bees and making a more pleasant place to visit. Benches which will stand the test of time for generations to come, and create gathering points within the grounds and to create memories. A SEAT TO REMEMBER

Each bench will be engraved with a symbol and quote selected to create an identity and story for each. The symbols I have chosen are taken from memorial symbolism from historic gravestones which can be found within Rectory Lane Cemetery. These are incorporated onto each bench which in turn can be interpreted by the user in different ways. With positive and reflective words, quotes taken from the bible corresponding with each of the symbols selected. This in turn can create a fun train which can be enjoyed by children visiting the cemetery with schools or family. A guide can be provided to visitors which can include the symbols from the benches to hunt for, which can be enjoyed by people of all ages for generations to come.
