Bench Numbers: 01-08
Estimated Hours Taken: N/A
Materials: Pigmented concrete and terazzo
Height: 450mm(seat), 1,450mm(plinth)
Ground Preparation: 300mm excavation of footprint would be required to receive integrated concrete footing.
Fixings / installation: Each concrete module will require mechanical lifting into place. Each module can be moved separately and secondly the terrazzo apron would require mechanical lifting in place.
Maintenance: The bench is constructed of durable long lasting materials and requires very low maintenance. The flower bedding will require maintenance depending on the species planted, but would require appropriate gardening.
Cost: Approximately £4,500
Other Considerations: The concept is designed as 3 modules, based on the number of people seated. The smallest module consists of a chair back 1 person wide then two then three. The modules can be arranged in a number a ways and could provide varied seating across all 8 benches. The varied heights of the concrete form reinterprets the tombstones in a welcoming and joyous fashion and are envisaged to repeat in different arrangements throughout the site. Bench 01 is just the first example of how this could occur and it is arranged to create a recognizeable meeting point for the Rectory Lane entrance.
