Bench Numbers: 10
Estimated Hours Taken: 40
Materials: Oak board, Redwood timber lengths, Oak dowels
Ground Preparation: On the site of bench number ten, minor site excavation will be required to install a series of concrete footings of approximately 300mm depth. As the site is on a slope, light landscaping will be required to provide a level terrain. A surface finish of flint gravel is proposed to mitigate standing water and denote the bench territory on the site.
Fixings / installation: The bench will be fabricated off site. On site installation will comprise of ground preparation, as mentioned in previous section. The bench legs will be set into 300mm deep concrete footings.
Maintenance: Oak boards and redwood timber will be treated for outdoor use with a clear wood preserver. Every few years a re-coating is recommended to protect against weathering. A coating of black tar is proposed for vertical elements connecting to the concrete footings, re application of tar should occur every couple of years. Flint gravel may erode over time, this should be replenished every couple of years to avoid standing water around concrete footings.
