Estimated Hours Taken:32 Hours
Materials:Stainless steel and polished concrete (with rebar)
Ground Preparation:A circular concrete base (1000mm diameter, 300mm deep) needs to be set and levelled.
Fixings / installation:Bolts will pass through the 6 holes in the bottom of the bench and into threaded tubes set vertically in the circular concrete base.
Maintenance:Little to none. Algae may grow on the concrete but this may possibly add a desired patina.
Cost:Approximately £3,000 - £4,000
Other Considerations:Necessary in order for the bench to function as a sundial, it requires aligning with due north, so that the seat is south facing and it must not be positioned in shade. The concrete base circle must be level, as the dial is set to 52°. This is due to Berkhamsted being located 51.76°N.
The bench is manufactured in two halves and will be joined in location. Alternatively, to save weight in order to improve ease of assembly on site, the entire bench could possibly be made from stainless steel.
